On Friday, the West Virginia Senate voted to pass HB 4006, which will eliminate the Department of Education and the Arts and its Secretary. This department is responsible for things like teacher & principal training programs, free summer reading programs, governor's schools for high school students in academics and the arts, and Energy Express among other services and programs. We believe this department is being targeted because Senator Joe Manchin's wife, Gayle Manchin, is the Secretary of the department.
